Gum health before whitening: why bleeding needs attention
If your gums bleed or feel sore, focus on understanding that change before trying to improve tooth colour.
JayWhite · Client information guide

Do not use whiteness as a health check
Gum disease can involve bleeding, swelling and other changes. A dentist can assess the cause and recommend care. Teeth that look bright in a photograph do not establish that the gums around them are healthy.
Explain when it happens
Note whether bleeding occurs during brushing, cleaning between teeth or at another time. Mention how long it has been happening and whether anything has changed in your routine. Avoid deciding that a new toothpaste alone explains the issue without assessment.
Ask what to do next
Your dentist can demonstrate cleaning and explain any follow-up needed. Ask questions if the instructions are difficult to carry out. Do not replace a recommended dental review with a cosmetic appointment because the visible colour is also bothering you.
Coordinate the whitening plan afterwards
Tell the JayWhite team about any current gum concern before booking. Once it has been assessed, discuss whether your timing or expectations need to change. Our consultation guide helps you organise the information to bring.
