Everyday care
Fluoride and whitening: two different jobs in your routine
It is easy to focus on the word “whitening” when buying toothpaste. Check the everyday care purpose too, especially if you are switching products.

What fluoride is for
Fluoride helps protect teeth against decay and supports remineralisation of early mineral damage. It is not a tooth-bleaching ingredient. A product’s fluoride role and its cosmetic stain-removal claim should be considered separately.
Read the label before switching
Check the intended age group, directions and fluoride information on the actual product. If your dentist has recommended a particular toothpaste, ask before replacing it with a cosmetic product. Bring the old and new labels if you want help comparing them.
Avoid building your own prescription
Higher-strength or specialist products should be used according to professional advice and their directions. Do not assume combining several fluoride products or using more toothpaste is automatically better. The appropriate routine depends on the person, not the brightness of the package.
Keep the goal clear
For everyday care, ask what protects your teeth. For a colour change, ask about suitability and realistic expectations. The whitening-toothpaste comparison below explains why the two conversations overlap without being the same thing.
