Aftercare
Brushing after whitening: questions about timing and comfort
An aftercare plan should make your daily cleaning routine easier to understand. Clarify any temporary changes instead of skipping care or brushing harder.

Ask what changes for your appointment
Before leaving, ask whether your normal brushing timing or products need a temporary adjustment. Note the answer, especially if you received an extra product. This article does not prescribe a waiting period that might conflict with your treatment directions.
Use gentle technique
For everyday care, the American Dental Association recommends a soft-bristled brush and gentle cleaning of the outer, inner and chewing surfaces. Extra force is not a way to improve a whitening result. Ask your dentist to demonstrate technique if you are unsure.
Explain discomfort clearly
If cleaning feels uncomfortable, describe where and when it happens rather than switching through several new products. Get dental advice for ongoing pain. Do not treat discomfort as a sign that whitening is working especially well.
Keep the routine simple
Place your normal toothpaste, brush and written instructions together. Ask which supplied products are additions and which, if any, change your existing routine. Our guide to everyday care can help you organise a sustainable habit after the appointment-specific guidance ends.
